Author Topic: IMPORTANT: update your 1WL blog users to Editor status! (Read 4946 times)

We're adding a major improvement to the 1WayLinks blog network: categorized posts. But in order to set this
new feature into motion, we need you to modify the blog users you have configured in 1WayLinks from our original recommended Author status to Editor status.

This is because we need the users to be able to add the new categories that posts will be able to be filed into.

This will be a HUGE benefit to everyone because the blog posts will be broken up into related groups, making their links more relevant in the search engines. In addition to that, with the posts broken up into highly specific categories all of the posts will appear "closer" to the home page of the blogs (in terms of link depth) -- another important factor Google uses to determine link value.

So please, don't wait, go update your blog users to Editor status now. You will receive a continual reminder in your 1WayLinks account until you do, and you won't be able to post into categories until all of your blogs are updated to allow others to do so.

P.S. Admin status will work, too. I can already see that quite a few people have their users setup as Admins in their blogs.

Jonathan,

You must not have the problems I have with foreign spammers trying to take over my blogs with link spam. If I updated everyone to Editor or admin status, I might as sell just shut down my blogs.

Hi,

Are the categories going to be monitored by the reviewers so we don't end up with a list of 1000 categories on the blogs because people want their keyword in the category title?

Will the category structure vary from blog to blog or will there be an identical category tree (footprint) on each site?

Do you see in the future a possibility of tagging blogs only to accept certain categories, so as to have blogs that are focused on a certain topic, i.e. "Travel" or "Shopping"?

Jon,

I seem to remember you used to say that the topic of the page that links came from didn't make any difference. Does this new feature mean you've changed your opinion on this, or are you simply responding to market demand even though you don't agree with it?

Always interested in your opinions on SEO matters.

By the way, I'd also be keen that there are a limited number of categories that people can select from, rather than being able to create any category they feel like.

I think adding the categories is a great idea, better than 100 or 1000's of posts just sitting in one category that is often just called uncategorized.

There's a fixed set of categories to choose from. It's extensive (300+), but fixed.

While i love the network getting better being FORCED to update my users because i otherwise are not allowed to play anymore i like not that much.

You aren't forced. If you choose not to update the users, you just won't be able to select categories for your own posts and they will all be uncatagorized.

That's a good idea Jon. Will the reviewers take category into account in the review process to make sure the submitted content matches the chosen category?

Does that mean that with time all blogs that opt-in to the categories will feature the same long fixed list of categories? Wouldn't that be a potentially unsafe footprint to leave?

I've updated the author status but still see the message?
