Comment from your reviewers about linking out to Amazon
« on: December 03, 2011, 05:44:52 AM »
Jon, I tried to submit a site yesterday and was declined. Reason is that I had the words Christmas and Halloween on my site. Not a problem, I deleted these references.

The reviewers also looked at where I was linking (Amazon) and they also included this as a reason for decline. They said I was linking to a site that had the word Christmas on it. I followed the link and went to Amazon and the text said "Ordering for Christmas? To ensure delivery by December 24, choose FREE Super Saver Shipping at checkout. Read more about holiday shipping."

This can't be true, right? Basically what your team is saying is that any site that links to Amazon won't be approved because of this holiday wording. Is that true?

That's a mistake. I'll talk to the reviewer.

:) I would be interested in this as well. I was getting ready to hit the "BUY" button until I read this post. I have 40 sites that all link to Amazon for various products. I was planning to use 3-way links. I'm sure Jon will resolve this issue, but I will be following this thread.  ???

Same over here - I submitted a site that reviews drill presses - not exactly what I would consider christmas content. It got declined because of the christmas mentioning over at amazon. I also filed a support ticket.

Jon, just an update. Seem to be going around in circles here. I submitted a 3rd time and was declined for same reason. Amazon link. I also submitted a different site (in coffee niche) also linking to Amazon with same decline. I had also submitted a support ticket and the reply was that you had spoken to the reviewers and to resubmit. I did that and that led to the 3rd decline already mentioned. I'll reply back to the support ticket asking them to get more involved. Maybe I'm missing something here  :-)   Tks, Ken

Hi Ken

You are not alone - I have made the exact same experience, also same answer to my support ticket: Look at the forum, the issue has been solved.
I have resubmitted three times now (after Jon's remark here in this thread) and I must state the issue has not been solved - the reviewer seems to totally ignore this or is not able to distinguish between the commercial aspect of holidays on third party sites that we link to and real content about christmas. In my case we are talking about a site that has reviews for tools and machinery - hardly christmas related content.
Just because the amazon websites now has a tiny "Is this a gift? Please note that this item ships in its own packaging and cannot be gift-wrapped or concealed." the site gets declined - or is it because there are reviews on the amazon page where someone states "I have received this as a christmas gift"? Because I guess the is this a gift part there all year.
I have the strong feeling that the reviewers have a blacklist of words and some kind of tool that follows all links on the page and if a word from the blacklist is found they are going to decline the site.
I am with 3waylinks I think pretty much from the beginning of it and I understand your content policy very well - I even think it is a good idea to be strict on some topics beacuse it makes the system usably for anyone - regardless of their beliefs.
The problem seems to be that the decision does not follow the sense or the meaning of the word but is made rather mechanically - and there is no way to communicate with the reviewer.

In my ticket I made the suggestion that it would be great to be able to send a note to the reviewer. if that would have been possible we just would have included the link to this forum thread and the issue would have been solved. I know there is no sense in enabling users to create endless discussions with reviewers - I know quite a few would try to do that. But I think it would help if you could send a note after the first resubmit to get things clearer. The reviewer can then still choose to ignore the note but on the other hand some issues could be solved much faster.

At this point I don't dare to resubmit the site because the reviewer has threatened to permanently block the site from the system if I keep resubmitting without changing the content (which is not possible - the site is an amazonproducts review site, it will always link to amazon, which - at any other time of the year is no problem at all).

@Jon: How shall we proceed? Do you think it is possible to educate your reviewers accordingly and in a timely manner or shall we just wait till after christmas and be disappointed by the lack of common sense on part of the reviewers (which of course is a bad business decision - as we pay for a system that we can use one month from now and miss out on the most busy time of the year)?

I hope this can be solved soon.

Mike

I am getting in touch personally with every reviewer to make sure they understand how to proceed with this issue.

My sincere apologies for the trouble.

Hi Mike,

This is Daniel with support at askjonleger.com

I've referred back to your ticket that you submitted.  I understood the issue had been resolved, however, I was mistaken.

I will be reviewing your ticket and any other tickets that have been submitted with this problem.  Thank you for your patience thus far.

Hi Jon

Sorry that I have to get back on the issue again.
I just learned from one of my clients whom I helped with his 3waylinks install that one of his cat sites was declined for sex content.
While my first thought was of course that he had horrible things on his site, like zoophilia (after all it is a cat site...) it turned out that he has a page where he discusses dishes for cats and states that, I quote, "You may wish to provide dishes that match her personality or sex".
I can not imagine that a site should be declined because it takes into consideration that you could use a pink dish for a female cat or blue one for a male cat.
My strong suspection is that the review protocol includes the following check: Enter "site:sitetoreview.com sex" and "site:sitetoreview.com yoga" in google and if there are hits, decline the site. The protocol should include "read the actual occurences of the word and decide whether you would discuss the topic found with your children". I would have no problem at all asking my kids if I had kids whether they want a pink and a blue dish for our two hypothetical cats of different sex.
In my eyes the mere occurence of the word sex does not constitute sexual content in the sense of content that is not allowed on 3waylinks.

Please clarify again, as it would be a pity to leave out his cat site - the kittens on the start page are so cute ;-)

Mike
