Wordpress Plugin ??
« on: November 25, 2011, 06:08:37 AM »
I've seen mentioned several times that the Link Page Customisation isn't needed if you use the Wordpress Plugin.

I can't see any link to download a plugin from.  Not sure if I just can't see it, or if it is supposed to come via e-mail.

Can anyone help?

Hi Debbie

The link to the plugin page is shown only in the "upload code" page. You are presented with 3 possibilities how to integrate the code, which are download php file or install plugin or integrate the shown PHP code. This is also the page where your 3waylinks ID is displayed, you will need that for configuring the plugin. Once your domain is online, there is no more direct link. If you want to switch to using the plugin, have a look over here:

Thanks for the plugin, I think it's working ok. Presumably I need to wait till the links start populating to see anything under the heading.  Will keep an eye on it.

I get a 404 error on the 3waylinks site when I click Validate and Activate.  Is this normal and ok?  I'm getting the heading on my page that I put into the setup on 3waylinks, so figure it's linked and recognising from there.

When I go back to the My Domains screen it shows the following which indicates it's not completed correctly.
Step 2 : Upload the links page to your site and have it verified.

Hi Debbie

There are several things that seem to have gone wrong.
First, you have to activate the ckeckbox "I am using the wordpress plugin" in your domain settings in 3waylinks, otherwise it is taking the header/footer code.
Second. if you get a 404 when validating you probably entered a mismatching file name in links page file name. Open your resource page in a browser and have a look at the adress bar - the part after your domain is what goes into the resource page file name - it has to match (case sensitive) otherwise 3waylinks won't find your resource page. Then keep in mind that you need a link from the home page of your site to the resource page. Many themes create this automatically, but some don't, so just make sure to check whether it is there.

Ahh I forgot to mention: As long as the "step 2 Uppload and activate "link is there your site is not validated and does not get links, you have to click the link again when you made your corrections to the links page file name and click on validate on the upload page again.

Thanks Mike, that was the bit that I got wrong.  I had put the page name, not the slug.  Once I checked the actual address bar and put that in it all worked fine.

The rest of your instructions all made good sense.  The instructions on the 3waylinks site are a bit confusing for those of us who aren't totally tech savvy.  The mixing of the php and wordpress instructions left me a bit confused as to what to take notice of, and what to ignore.

Really appreciate your help.

Hello,

can someone help me as I am totally confused on this part. I managed, after some troubles to figure out how setup should work on a WP-Blog

Nevertheless here is where I am getting frustrated:

I've filled out all the information in 3w links for the site I intend to submit.

-linktext page title
-description
-linktext in spun format
-three links in texts fields    (I tried both options)

I positively clicked  "I use the WP Plugin"
however no links are appearing on my linkpage ??

so I did the following:
I downloaded and unzipped the php file in question and uploaded it to the root folder of the specifique site.

(the plugin alone does not make a relation to 3wl for an unknown reason to me, despite filling in the proper 3wl ID)

so here are the next steps I tried out:

installing the plugin - activating - page is there and active - the name "resources" is automatically attributed in my pageindex.
when i open the site via the footer link it's called whatever I've named it (i.e mylinksite etc) so far so good.

the linktext page title shows up properly but no link is displayed , so where do I go wrong?

can anyone explain all steps needed one by one?  I did propably just miss out on something or did to much on a certain point.
especially I am confused how the linktext and or link text fields need to be written in order to build a link afterwards.

do I have to put in only the keywords I want to go for, or should it be more the type of an anchor text ?

please need really some help on this.

thanks richard

Hi Richard

You are just not patient enough - the links do not show up immediately after validation.
You should decide whether you want to use the plugin or the php file - not both.
When you are through with validation, it can take up to 2 days until your site has been reviewed - only after that will your site be live in the 3waylinks system. After that it can again take a few days until you receive links or until links show up on your outgoing links page. Note that the outgoing links and incoming links do not go live synchronous - you can already have a couple of incoming links and the first outgoing link will come a few days later - this just depends on how fast the cells in the 3waylinks system are fillling...

Mike thank you for your answer, nevertheless I do not fully understand your statement, as the missing links were among the cause why my site got declined from submission to the 3WL Network and I was asked to fix that.

So I am definitely confused on how to set up the file properly.

thks, Richard

Hmm, maybe I got you wrong, or you confused the error message. It most probably was something along the lines of "A link from your home page to the resource page is missing" and not "the links on your resource page are not sowing up" - could that be?
In this case your theme did not automatically add a navigationonal link to the resource page when it was created by the plugin.
What you could do is add a text widget to one of your sidebar and create a link there.

Hi Mike,
thanks for answering my questions.  Let me paste you in what I receive exactly from the 3Wl staff as a message after sumitting my site/s
disregard the message about the unwanted content.

Hope this helps to explain?
thanks Richard

I'm afraid it's still the same, only your links page title text appears on your links page and you still have yoga content at http://mydomain.net/?s=yoga. And also, your links search text needs to be 3 different keyword or phrases consisting of just a few keywords that people would use to search. Or you can choose to spin your links. It's also possible to put spin text in link text field 1 , fields 2 and 3 but you can't use the large spin text box at the same time.

Hi Richard

O.k. I would not worry too much about the empty links page - you have two far more severe problems - you have to fill in the keywords correctly and you must make sure that your site meets the content criteria...
I know it is hard for some that yoga content is not allowed - but you have to decide - do you want yor site in the network then you have to remove the yoga content. Also be aware that the keyword you enter are the most decisive part in the setup process. If you choose keywords with too much competition it will seem that 3waylinks fails - not because it is not an effective system but rather because the number of links it can provide is just too low for your chosen set of keywords.

In regard to the time it already has cost you to try to set up the system let me use this answer to hint at my signature ;-)
I may add that I got through every single site that met the content criteria  so far - even those with the quirkiest wordpress setup...
