Blog Categories Not Showing Up When Setting Up Auto Posting
« on: December 10, 2011, 12:29:49 AM »
Having issue with one site in setting up Auto Posting, I am getting a blank little box in drop down when selecting the ON SITE categories and not any of my site cats showing up in the last step of set up, tried several times, still the same. Cannot set up auto posting without selecting a category.

Thanks

Do you get any errors at the top of the page, or just nothing but a blank list?

No, no  message, just a blank tiny little box, it's actually smooshed to be much smaller than usual.

I have added several other sites without issue.

And, now I am also getting a bad pass/login error for ANOTHER site, though I have made sure all credentials are correct, and even readded a whole new user and still getting the same error. Remote pub settings are set on WP.

I am still waiting to resolve this issue, still cannot set up auto posting and also getting bad pass/login error messages when adding some blogs.

I have also experienced a similar problem when trying to post to one of my blogs. The domain I am trying to post to is a .co domain as in "nameofblog.co" all of my other blogs are .com or .net or .org and they all show the Categories and posting to them via articlebuilder is a breeze. Love the system..

If you're getting errors from the blog via XMLRPC then it's an issue with either the blog or plugins interfering with the XMLRPC.

After seeing that Jon had responded to this post I thought I would have a go at trying to submit content to my .co domain. All that happens is that when you get to the point of selecting a category the dropdown is very thin and totally empty.

I have successfully submitted content from Article Builder to over twenty other blogs, all of which are either .com .net or .org. Oh there is one .co.uk. None of them have a problem. The only one that will not show what is in the categories is the .co domain.

My experience from my link networks is that a lot of plugins can cause that kind of problem. Are you using any different plugins on the site(s) that don't work compared to the others?

I am getting this same problem - empty drop down menu for site categories.  I have deactivated ALL plugins, so the problem is not other plugins.

Any ideas please?

I'm also having this exact problem, and if I try to continue without selecting a category (because I can't), then I get this error:

"You must select a blog category to send posts to."

It worked fine for my first blog I added, but now I'm getting this problem for my second one. I've tried disabling plugins one by one and re-testing each time, but no luck.

How does it detect the category list? Is there any way we can rather just give it a category manually instead of relying on the detection?

I had this problem on 2 different websites.

With one, it was a plugin problem - I deactivated all plugins and it worked OK, then I reactivated them one by one to ascertain where the conflict was which was blocking Article Builder's access to XMLRPC.

With the other site, it wasnt a plugin problem - deactivating all plugins did not solve the problem.  It was an XMLRPC access problem due to permissions on the server.  We visited the xmlrpc.php page and it wasnt available.  Get a webmaster to look into the permissions and access to XMLRPC.

Good luck

If you do a search on this issue in this forum, you will be surprised to find that it is not a new problem but one that dates way back to the birth of this system. I don't buy the idea of plugins or anything to do with the WP system. I only have .com domains and as i get this problem this rules out the .co idea brought up earlier. At some point i was even told by the admins that it is something to do with the hosting service but then again i was having problem from two different hosts. This then moved to the suggestion of the use of sub directories/domains but you see i was getting the problem even with the main domain blogs.

So all i can say is that please don't expect to get a solution for this but just try to live with it no matter how painful that may be.

The problem is that it means you are not able to connect to the WP through the AB so as to fetch the categories list from your blog. You will even be surprised to find that even some auto posting jobs that work okay will at some point fail to automate and just stop posting. This i think is when the the issue kicks in and cuts off the connection to the WP blog.

If you are clever enough you can try to invoke it using the back door and that will refresh the system and hence allow the connection to the WP.

I think the only thing we can all agree on is that - this system is long overdue for an update and an overall upgrade.

So even though other people are saying that it was a plugin problem for them, and others indicated that when they changed hosts it worked, and AB connects via XMLRPC the same way for every single blog, it's not a problem with your site or setup, it's a problem with AB.

I see.

I do agree that AB needs some upgrades, and we're brainstorming those now and looking for feedback. So any ideas you have I'm open to hearing.
