Anyone have any idea about the value of links that are from articles on an irrelevant subject? For example, if my article is about cars, and my anchor link text is about flowers, will Google devalue that link? Or does it count just the same as if my article was about flowers as well as my link?

r3bb,

I have no idea regarding an answer to your question.
But I am sure some SEO Gu-Ru will be along shortly and give you
a good answer.

All I do know is that C4L is set up to give the writes  a way for writers
to get articles on line which plug their own sites. but also designed
for the advertisers to place their links on these articles, thereby
getting hits and google rankings for their sites in the process.

I fell that sometime in the future, Jon will offer on topic articles written
by advertiser choice writer's (through C4L)but until that happens, a lot
of the articles written thru C4L will be basically the writers choice, with
the advertisers link being added near the author bio.

Nobody knows for sure!

My belief is that they're probably less valuable than links from on-topic pages.

Even if that's not the case now (and I think it is) - then it's quite likely to be true in the future:  If Google haven't implemented it yet, then it's the sort of thing that they will implement as soon as they can get it to work.  After all, common-sense dictates that if you weight on-topic links more heavily than off-topic ones, it's likely to improve search results.

Having said all that - I still think off-topic links do have some value (it's too hard for a machine to work out what's on-topic and what's off-topic to disregard "off-topic" links altogether.

So my system is:  Get on-topic links wherever possible - but it's ok to get some off-topic links too.

It's probably doing more harm then good to get TOO MANY links all of sudden. A "natural growth curve" is what the SE like to see.

An  idea came to me while typing this: it couldn't hurt to add something like this at the end of an article... particularly in something published on Gather.... "By the way I really enjoy XXX. Check this out (link here)." Change it up with each article published. Maybe add to it a bit to flesh it out quickly. The idea being to make it appear as a tip that others may be interested in. This could work well where several very short articles, tips, etc. are published together on the same page which many do on Gather.

What a good idea, maybe make a swipe file of possible resource/bio box/signature links, and then voila, paste as you see fit at the end of your article, whatever directory it may be on.

r3bb,

Nobody knows for sure, just like everything else on SEO.

But here are some facts:

1. Writing off topic articles in EZA and gathering links is an art form and many people do this to hide their niches for as long as they can. So there is a benefit in off topic links, no doubt about it.

2. Also a leading marketer has made a case study about how keywords in the title of the page benefits the anchor text link. So obviously these are on topic links.

I hope this is helpful in answering your question.

Regards
SNM

There is another post in this forum on the results of some C4L articles, check it out http://jlforums.com/cash4links-com/it%27s-working-my-sites-have-improved/
