Links to Secured Sites -- https sites
« on: June 14, 2010, 02:35:57 PM »
Hey people
How do you go about submitting a link to a secured site -- they automatically add
 target="_blank"
to ensure the site is secure.
I got a link to submit, have tried 2 separate article directories to no avail, spent more than $5 worth of my time, but now its a matter of principle -- it is NOT going to beat me >:( -- (unless it is designed to by default  ;D)

I have put in a ticket to support, and received a speedy reply that the link has the target, and for me to remove it.  No can do with my knowledge.  Anyone else know of a way to submit the link?  The link works like a charm, I try it and it works like it should, just adds the target and therefore no credit for it.

Any help on this?
Thanks
Leona  :)

I don't know why adding "target=_blank" makes a site secure, all that does is ensure that the link opens on a new page or tab, instead of replacing the page that it is on. Are you able to edit the html? Don't know if I am teaching granny to suck eggs here, but the target="_blank" will be at the end of your url link. If it is definitely the site that adds the "new page" html, then can you submit to a non-secure site?

The html for a link that stays on the same page is:
<a href="httx://www.yourdomainname.com">Domain link text</a>

The html for a link that opens in a fresh page or tab is:
<a href="httx://www.yourdomainname.com" target="_blank">Domain link text </a>

Have used the httx to get around "only 1 link per page"

Thanks Meg, for your reply, and if I were to understand correctly, what makes a site secure is the very fact that they control it.  Linking an unsecured site to a secured link would not make the link secure, know what I mean?

I have tried it multiple ways, on different article sites (that have NO issues with my other links being accepted), no target appears.  Only the secure site link is the issue.  This is my first secure site link I have need to submit.

If this is going to be an issue with C4L and secure site links, perhaps it could be imposed that no advertiser links to secure sites, or perhaps someone with C4L could verify the link works and manually credit the account?

The latter suggestion sounds like more work than it needs to be, perhaps there is a way to submit that I know not of.  At any rate, if all options have been exhausted, I will simply ask for the link to be removed from my account and allow someone else the "privilege" of submitting the link the way C4L wants done.  I am at a loss.

My best guess AT THIS PRESENT MOMENT, with my current understanding, is for this one, to manually verify the link; and then not allow "https" links for this reason.

All that blank biz'nes does is.. as already stated.. opens the target in a new page.

They're doing that so that the oringal page isn't lost and the viewer isn't taken away from their site. I do this all throughout my sites but mostly so the viewer can see the results of running their scans and not lose the scanning form.   8)

BTW.. don't lose out on the link. Just post your article or whatever to Gather.com. Very easy there.  :-*

Leona  :)

Leona, along with the ease of publishing on Gather you should be aware you also benefit by earning points. With consistent effort those points do add up. I use mine to collect $50 Gift Certificates to feed my thirst for books from Amazon. I've been able to pickup many titles this way. So keep that in mind if you love books as much as I do. Or, just take the cash Gather pays out. It's all good.  ;)

Leona,

My very favorite thing about using Gather is that you can
post pictures ;D in your articles.

Don't know about the advertisers, ???  but I love that. ;)

I just go on line and find a pic to grab from the advertisers site,
or free pics site, click I add it to the article..

Works Grrreaatt!

I like the OLD way Gather use to do pics. I could just post the things. Now they want you to put them in portfolios and catalog them all.. booo.. I'm too lazy to want to figure out how to do all that... too much like packing.. YAK! :'(

But other then that I really like Gather.. been a member for several years.

TIP: You can really stir up things during a presidential campaign.. which boosts your points when your aritcles get hundreds of views!  ;D

And all of Jon's tools come in handy for that!

Canadian's are much to civilized to get out in the streets and scatter their dirty laundry,

Canadians are a funny bunch. They have their problems just like in the ol USA. But they don't like to admit it and so they tend to wash things under the table far more then we do.

I had Canadians get down on Americans for military spending.. until I tell them its because we cover what they won't. Without the USA they would all have been speaking Russian a long time ago!  8)

Tradeview not so  8)

That is certainly not the way I feel.

Yes we did go to the aid of Canada and also many other
countries, but unlike a lot of the other countries Canada :D
has always been appreciative of the US.

We are always welcome there!
