Thanks but you didn't answer my questions. I know the software is worth at least $25.
What is the free $25 trial? Does it cost me $25 or not? If so does it qualify for the software or not?

"if you join my Kiva Team and make a $25 loan (or more if you want), and then paste a copy of your receipt into my help-desk at AskJonleger.com, you will get this cool little tool I've created for (practically) free.

I say "practically" because there's a (very) small chance your loan at Kiva won't get repaid.  Kiva has a 98.5% repayment rate, so there's a 1.5% chance you won't get your $25 back.  But given that this cool little tool is worth AT LEAST $25, even if your loan doesn't get repaid -- which is very unlikely -- you still win!"

Hi Guys

The free Kiva trial is something that was not available when Jon originally started this thread.
To answer the question what the free trial is:
Reid Hoffman has put up $1 million of his money to get people engaged with Kiva without having to use their own money for their first loan. Of course the idea behind it is to get people stay engaged and subsequently give their own money for a loan.
Now you know what the free trial is.
This does not answer the question whether starting with the free trial qualifies for Jon's offer. This is something that only Jon can answer.
I'd expect that you need to make a loan from your own money, but to clarify that we really need a short statement from Jon here.

I know it cost $25 to get the software, but do I pick $25 free trial or just $25 from the drop down menu?

Well if you can get a free trial - why not try it? If that is not sufficient to get you into TipBuilder, then just go back and choose the $25 version. You are more likely to get correct information from help desk http://askjonleger.com/support/ because they will be the ones assessing your payment receipt and giving you access to TipBuilder

Thanks Mike that's what I wanted to know, not just for this, but so I can tell others as well. I'm sure the free trial doesn't qualify as it's not Jon's thing, but Meg's idea was a good one (thx). I did the free trial and a second donation of $25, to qualify for the tip builder and so 2 people can have a $25 loan in stead of one!
Thanks Meg and Mike!

I'm sure I'll do more loans in the future as well, now that I'm aware of this. It reminds me of another charity I donate to that loans people trying to run a business in poor countries. Thanks for letting me know about this Jon.

As far as I know, Tipbuilder is still available by making a Kiva donation, http://jlforums.com/tip-builder/what-is-tip-builder/
I just checked mine there now and it's working fine.

This all sounds too complicated. I would buy the tool for $25 and the seller can do what he or she wants to do with the proceeds. If they want to donate or lean the money it is their choice. I am suspicious as the idea of lending money sounds very complicated and confusing.

I can assure you that lending money through KIVA was TOTALLY straightforward. It is a charity. I had never previously heard of it but have had great interest and fun following how my loans have been used and learned a great deal about how poor people in other parts of the world manage to feed their families.

Jon has done this in order to HELP people elsewhere in the world. This tool cost him money to develop but he gets NO INCOME from it, so asking him to receive the money (on which he would be charged TAX) and then spend additional money to get it sent elsewhere would be ridiculous. In addition, by making charitable donations, YOU may be able to receive a tax allowance on your donation, depending where you are in the world. You also get the chance to say who your money should be loaned to, or the type of project.

Don't bother - you don't get the tool, the poor people don't get a loan - which you will almost certainly get back!

Hello Jon,

This seems like a great idea for many reasons. Is the offer still available?
Thanks.

My copy of TipBuilder still works. I suggest you contact help desk https://askjonleger.desk.com/ to see if the offer is still available but I would guess so.
