5 Suggestions for Improvement
« on: July 20, 2010, 07:52:35 AM »
Hi Jon,

I have been using your Instant Article Factory for the last couple of days.

Whilst I like the concept, there are a number of problems that need fixing.

1/ You need an X by the sentences that are built in, so that they can be deleted with one click.  There are generally some that need deleting in every article, and currently it is very clunky to get rid of them.

2/ You need an auto save function - I just worked on an article for 40 minutes only to press the wrong button and have all my efforts be for nothing.

Very annoying. This could have been recovered if there had been an auto save function.

3/ You need a lot more templates - Currently you have about 17. 1700 would be nearer the mark.  Can't you outsource the creation of these to a team of writers?

You could then simply show 20 random ones to every person when they login, and the whole issue of duplication would be a moot one.

I am serious about the 1700. 17 is ridiculously low.  If this is going to be a serious service, then you need to provide a lot more templates and not simply wait for your users to do it.

4/ Allow a way to delete the resource box - I am not using this to submit to article directories. I am using it to write my own articles, and at the moment the final output is very messy with all these extra boxes etc in the final output.

5/ You need the ability to save to folders - Having one massive list of articles in My Articles is not very good. It quickly becomes hard to manage.

I welcome your suggestions.

Jon says there are 1000s of variation for each article template but you says it was 1700 instead of 17000.

which is correct?

no, he's saying he wants a list of 1700 individual templates to choose from, with a random 20 or so shown at any one time (instead of always the same 17). The variations that Jon referred to are because of the text spinning within each template. I know that press release templates are in the works, but that would add 2-3 tops I think.

I agree that more templates would be nice, but that's why I'm making my own.

I agree with the other requests, easier to delete parts of template, easier to autosave, are also great ideas.

Actually this would also be good:

6/ Ongoing Word Count as I am typing - I find that the number of words suggestion by the articles is worthless for me. Because in some boxes I write a lot, and in others hardly anything.

In general I now find that my articles are ending up running to 700 - 950 words, because I find writing easy, and end up writing more because the boxes trigger a new thought.

That is ok. But to be honest I would sooner have an idea when I have gone over 500 so that I know to then have much shorter sections for the last few boxes.

At the moment I feel like I am flying blind a little without an ongoing word count built in.

First, I'd like to say that IAF has tremendous potential. But to help it reach that potential, all the suggestions put forth in this thread would have to be implemented.

I lost two articles by hitting the wrong keys and almost an hour of my time went down the drain. Very annoying indeed. I'm quite reticent to use the software now, because I'm afraid of losing my work. And the lack of templates severely hampers the way I can use IAF anyway, because my niches don't necessarily lend themselves to the defaults.

So I really hope these suggested changes will be implemented. Thanks!

I agree the number of templates is ridiculously low. I think John tried to get away with the idea of "mega templates"... Where one template is supposed to accommodate thousands of different subjects and article ideas...

Interesting in theory, but in real life, all I get is incredibly weird looking and vague articles that say nothing. Its almost like incoherent ramblings about daydreams and the stars and the luckiness of the number 7 :D :D

Basically, I agree with the OP, it should be more like 1700 templates, which are a lot more specific and segmented by niches. Right now, the only way I plan to use IAF is as a way to give my writers a draft to write and speed up their writing... I have a template that just has a randomly generated headline and subheadlines, with empty spaces below each subheading. In essence, I'm using IAF as word template :D I guess I got extra money to burn or something...

But ya, more templates = priority.

alek,

I've been wondering if most of the rest of people crank out really crappy articles when they are spinning them. I thought I maybe just didn't "get it".

From the start I said that the 17 templates and their spun variations have tons of problems. I'd never let anything like that get out of my computer. The answer I got was about how these are for spinning thousands of articles...and a question as to whether I new much about spinning.

My problem is with the very poor quality of the 17 templates and their variations.

Like you and some others, including Texsa, I'm only using this for custom templates.

Great suggestions

Just to add....

I prefer creating my own templates for use in different niches. It would be nice to have the ability to categorize the templates for easy management e.g. have a category for my "weight loss", " internet marketing", "Stock Market" etc. related templates. This way i can develop each niche with its own unique set of templates.

Thanks

Jon or Meg, could you please let us know whether any of the changes in this thread will be implemented and what the time frame(s) would be? I'm reticent to use the software without auto-save, because I've already lost two articles by accidentally hitting the wrong key. It would help me a lot to know whether that feature (and the others) will be added in the near future. If so, I'll wait to write my next crop of articles. Thanks! :)

Sorry, I can't help you. I am a user and poster just like most others on here, so the question will need to wait for Jon

**I agree with all 6 suggestions by Results. I would be happy with a total of 50 original templates and I'm sure many IAF users could send in suggestions/samples (not necessarily their own personalized, custom ones) but I have already created 4-5 custom templates and I have a list of 30 MORE to CREATE!

I would be happy to pass on some of these to others, even if it was more of the "bare bones" without all the transitional paragraphs.

**Having an X function on sentences that are inputted WOULD SAVE MUCH TIME and allow for us to instantly type in our own voice without all the "clean up" most of the articles require now. Further saving TIME and making this a more powerful program that will be more versatile to MANY niches and websites.

It also helps those of us who are writing original articles and may not need/want to spin or need the spinning as much. Also many of us need much larger articles for our "information" sites. 350-500 is on the minimal LOW side for me, thus ALL of these articles are requiring extra formatting.  This is also a way to create more original templates.

Alowing an easier way to put in our original transitional paragraphs will also increase originality plus a huge time saver and higher originality scores.

** AUTO SAVE -- I have lost 2 articles from internet / PC refreshing or a pause in my wireless transmission and it does make you scared to lose more hard work.  Autosave or SAVE AS is a MUST HAVE.  As it immediately makes one think of how can I protect myself from this happening.  Maybe I should just set these up in Word.  You don't want people thinking that when this is a great product but needs "tweaking".

** WORD COUNT - Again, I thought of this too, just within the first DAY of using the product and it made me think again of WORD and setting up my own templates THERE! One could always spin from that if one needed too. It's nice to have the "instant" funciton in this template but not with the added stress of losing content, difficulty with ommiting inserted content, no idea of where you're at with word count.

** SAVING IN FOLDERS - is another must hve for users to comfortable want to continue using th eporogram long term.  As it becomes more work to find articles, templates and spending time searching rather than writing.

** DELETING THE STUFF AT THE BOTTOM - Don't need it and don't use it. Just more clean up. It would be nice to to have it option and able to delete with an "x" button.

**LOVE THE PROGRAM ** Just giving more ideas to make this the FIREBALL it could be.  Understandable you have a lot of work with yr other pgroams as well, plus answering tech questions and the one's posted here.  however, this is the valuable feedback directly from buyers/users of your software that you get without market research that could catapualt the program beyond any of the competition or future competition.  Blessings,
Lisa

I would love to try this software once the improvements were made. I would definitely use it as starting points for writing articles.

I just purchased this product and I am dissatisfied with it. I already have IAW3 and The Best Spinner. I was really looking forward to putting out some great articles to make my days of writing articles easier and of quality. I was also looking forward to ranting and raving about this product. My articles are niche based and the templates in this product do not accompany that. There's a HUGE need for more templates. I understand that I have the option to create them on my own, but I don't want to take the time to do that as I purchased this program so that I could create articles in a short period of time with the tools provided to me. This program does not live up to it's cost. This program is setup great and I see potential in it. But it needs a lot of improvements. I hope the improvements that many of the current users have requested will be implemented very soon. As of now, I plan to cancel my subscription and wait around until I hear that this product have been improved. I agree that this program needs to have a mass amount of templates to choose from (1700 sounds great), auto save, ability to delete, folders to save to, and maybe a suggestion tool, suggesting content to add to the template to help create customized templates for product reviews, tips, etc based off of a specified niche. My niche is health and fitness, network marketing, internet marketing, building your business online and social media. Templates that will accommodate these niches would do me wonders. I can then write articles in minutes and focus on building my business instead of working on articles for hours of the day with little time to focus on my business.  ;)
