Is Article Marketing is Spamming activity

I have watched one video of Matt Cutts in which he declared that article submission to various articles directories is spamming activity. What is my forums friends suggestion ?

I doubt that all article directories are of equal caliber, so some probably seem like hotbeds of spam whereas others are a little more reputable. I'm guessing that the uniqueness of submitted articles matters a great deal as well?

At the end of the day all link building is unnatural and from Google's perspective is, to some degree or other link spam.

It can be seen from direct observation that article directories have nowhere near the power they used to have - however, when I started out we used article directories to drive traffic to our sites. After a while people got the idea they were good for cheap back links and then everything turned to spam.

So, here's a suggestion: think about site visitors, readers, human beings. Look at providing good quality, interesting and worthwhile content on sites that are visited by real humans. Look at getting traffic that is not dependent upon search engines. If you get real traffic from your syndicated content then search engines will come following because it is in their best interest to do so.
If you do something to get a back link then it is a spam link. The only question is how spammy?

If you are submitting unique content then I don't think Article submission would be considered as a spamming activity .

Doing guest blogging just for the sake of guest blogging and having more links is probably not a great idea. If the blog itself is serious and the guest providing content actually provides relevant and helpful content to the readers, than that's helpful.

Article marketing is not a spamming activity if it is done in a limit and content should be original. If content is copied from anywhere then Google count in spamming.
