Writing Reviews To Make Money
« on: December 03, 2012, 03:28:35 PM »
I wanted to share something I have been working on just recently it is a short 12 page PDF about writing reviews.

In the document I cover the following areas:
  • What is a review?
  • Different Types of review
  • What is the one type of review we should avoid writing?
  • How to write that one type of review (just in case you REALLY need to!)
  • How to write a product review
  • The elements of a product review
  • Four questions every review should answer
And a little bit about why reviews make money for us all.

You don't need to give up an email for this info, there's nothing to buy, just download the PDF file, read it and use it - and maybe ask questions in this thread. Writing reviews has earned me many tens of thousands of dollars and in some unusual ways. You don't have to be a great writer to make money this way, just a little bit less lazy than most people who do it.

Here's where you can pick up the document.

This is a great free gift Andrew :-)

I read through from start to finish, and it provides really clear solid advice on how to write a review that will answer a readers needs, and of course that is the important thing if you want to gain trust from your readers.

I bought a WSO about writing reviews earlier this year, and the information provided in Andrew's free download is actually better, go figure.

Meg, what were the points about writing that you picked up on? I was probably doing something by accident so it'd be handy to know. ;)

Meg, what were the points about writing that you picked up on? I was probably doing something by accident so it'd be handy to know. ;)

The first was your definition of a "sales review". It reminded me that I have just bought a product that I am having to learn how to use (namely a tablet) before I give it to my young granddaughter for her Christmas present. There are  no instructions with it and I am trying to find my way round buying and playing children's apps and making sure the tablet won't drain my bank account with in-game purchases once she gets her hands on it. I had thought of writing a user guide to it (once I have learned to use it  ;)) but your document made me think that a sales review would also be a good document to write for this particular model and that maybe a few other sales reviews, on apps could come in handy, though maybe for next Christmas, not this one.

Another was how you introduced your affiliate links (e.g. for Jon Leger's products), such as The Best Spinner. You mentioned Thrifty Content, but plugged Article Builder  ;D and you also mentioned some competing products without providing links. That was all tastefully done, so I felt I was getting a bigger picture, not just a sales pitch. You also managed to fit those in there very artfully, even though the article was not particularly about those.

I also liked your product evaluation paragraphs. Gave me hints on how to go about writing a sales review.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, it does help me.
I was not doing anything conscious with the affiliate links but yeah, I did not want to be too pushy becasue they were not the purpose of the document. In general I tend to add links to content when they are mentioned, because, well, why not. ;)

A further thought. I used to make quite a few sites that focused upon a particular product or niche and the core of these was reviews and pre-sells for the main product but often/usually intermingled withinfo about other products related to the primary one. In your case that might be a site about the tablet (and I'd bet its clones and namesakes) talk about how to use it and get the best from it. Write about how to expand its functionality with various apps and become THE site for that particular machine and later its successors.

In fact it was this kind of site that became the basis for the automated websites that I make and sell these days. Take a product, write about it and feature related content to that main product. Sites like those can earn lots of money and run for years. I had one that ran on autopilot for several years and earned over $20K all by itself, no promotion, no link building and after the initial content not even any new content (apart from material scraped from other sources - but that's something we don't really do these days though, we have better ways to do the job)
