New PR Update
« on: May 05, 2010, 04:08:54 PM »
Jon,

With this update I just lost 800+ quota points and I'm in minus points now. I'm out of the link business.

So how do I get points so I can continue with my link campaigns and be part of this? Don't say buy quota, that's not happening. Can't wait long enough giving links out to make up the short fall either, over 400 in the hole, that will take months to recover.

When your sites lose pagerank, you lose quota. That keeps the system fair.

The only way to get points is to buy quota or approve links. If you have additional sites to add that will make the link approval method faster.

I can hear George's frustration. I had the same thing. I did not know why my sites went to PR 0, but it hit me hard and I needed to raise those sites back up. Since I am also on 1waylinks, I sent out blogs with those sites targeted. They recovered after a bit. One solution would be to update PR more often than twice a year, for those of us who have a lot of sites and need to stay fairly current. If one is using this service to link TO the donor sites, the rankings, on the whole should rise. For a couple of us, there can be glitches along the way, and my loss of massive quota last time was rough.

I feel for you George. If you still have room left on your sites to approve new links, you can dig out of the hole, but it did take a couple of months of not placing new links for me.

I had also suggested that a slight modification from 1:1 to maybe 1:1.2 would be a good adjustment without causing bad inflation in the system.

Yeah, I had an increase in PR due to some other strategies, and I got quota. Went up a couple of hundred points. But, I like my new linking strategies so much, I have been focusing just on that. Finally, my sites are moving.

Jon,

It's been 2 months since the PR update and my losing 800 points. I have 10 sites in the system to take links.

Here's the problem, you said buy quota or approve links. I'm not buying quota, and won't, in 2 months I bet there hasn't been 50 link request submitted to me so I can't make up the loss in quota by approving links.

I'm still out of the link business here.

What are you doing to get this system running again?

George

Hi,

Here's one for Jon to think about; how will he define hierarchy
for sites in MyWayLinks and 3WayLinks once Google does away
with PageRank?

I believe they're planning to abolish the system in the not too
distant future.

Has PageRank made us victims of our own SEO endeavors?

Page rank is not what it's all about. That's just a way of keeping score... It has its uses, can be a useful marker.  If it's abolished it will likely be because it is not really relevant to what concerns most of us.

So if PR is abolished, what will we use for markers in the future?  :)

BTW, I'm still getting new links and quota every day... George, perhaps you need to add more sites to MWL or loosen up your link requirements.

There seems to now be an open class/group/category of sites that all accept links from most categories, check and approve links daily and have very high link approval ratings. These guys get a lot of links (at least from me) because they are responsive, worth my time.

Then there are those who are slow to approve, picky about who they approve and strict about categories. These don't get many links... I imagine others do as I do and pass over anyone with a link approval rating below 80-90, or who has rejected more than 1 or 2 of my link requests or for which you have to wait a week to get approval...

Which category are you in?

*Sits smugly*

I actually had an increase in credits as my sites have been improving.

I would second the motion for having more PR updates in the year.

However, if you put in more sites in the system, you will get more credits available.

Also, look at the existing sites that you have, most people do searches based on keywords, make sure that you have a lot of keywords in the description of your site on MWL, that way people are more likely to find your site when searching for link partners.

Just had another thought:

If the sites which are linking to you have INCREASED in page rank, then you will presumably be paying more per link for those.

If this is the case, then you won't have lost PR, but the sites which are linking to you will simply be more expensive.

However, it is important to note that these sites will also be more powerful for you, so even though you don't have the quota, you will be having the link power coming to your site.
