MyWayLinks site got hacked
« on: July 26, 2010, 12:28:54 AM »
Just got message from MyWayLinks that my resource pages do not display the right way.
All these pages got hacked. Than I checked the MyWayLinks site and saw that it got hacked too.
Should I delete the resource pages until this issue resolved?

Thanks

Dear Jon,

As you probably know, the mwl site has been hacked, I hope this will be fixed soon.

In addition to this, in the e-mail that alerted me to this was the following paragraph:

You have two days to correct the problem before your site will be removed from the system.  Please contact our technical support if you feel this message has been received in error:"

As this is not my error, will the sites that I have be deleted off the system?

Also, since a lot of your sites (3 way links, my way links, etc) seem to be based on the same kind of technology, I hope that you will be reviewing your internal security after this.

Many thanks.

Yes, my site too.  I've zapped the hacked page for now so it just 404s.  Will re-instate it as soon as we get the all-clear from Jon.

The issue is that the same security updates were not applied to map I'm looking Ono this with my host who will soon have this corrected to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Yup, as I thought -- my host did not update this particular server with the new security.  It's being done now and all will be restored soon.

Okay, the site is restored and the new security in place to prevent this going forward.

My apologies for the inconvenience.

FYI, to read about the new security measures that will prevent this going forward, read my blog post:

http://www.jonathanleger.com/lessons-learned-from-a-hacker/

Unfortunately these measures were not put into place on this one particular server due to a miscommunication.  That has been corrected.
