Ok so I still believe that good blog commenting can really help your search engine rankings but finding freelancers to do this effectively is pretty difficult and not always cost effective - I even paid a Warrior recently for 40 blog comments and got links on pages spammed with up to 6000 external follow links - pointless exercise though it was, it did give me an idea:

Much like 1waylinks, if members would like to comment on other peoples' blogs then they must first accept comments on their own blog.

• The blog owner would have control over whether they accept links to any site or sites within a specific niche.
• Blog owners also get control over how many comments they allow per post so as not to appear as a spam blog.
• A credits system could be implemented so that every comment accepted on your blog gives you the ability to post one comment on another blog.
• To keep the blogs looking natural, blog owners could request X number of comments without links for every 10 with links - for the people commenting without links, instead of using up a credit they actually gain a credit for their effort.
• To keep quality high, blog owners could reject poor quality comments such as "great post" or "thanks for the info" and if a user gets too many rejections then he/she will be penalised a number of credits or stopped from commenting altogether until he/she proves themselves by commenting without links for a while.

I hope this makes sense and I'd welcome any comments/suggestions.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say , but, the way that I read it was that Steve was putting forward an idea for a new product in the new product ideas section of the forum.

OR am I missing something!!!

Your post was perfectly in the right place, probably HoneyJo just did not see that it was in the "new product ideas" section and that made it easy to confuse with a 1waylinks competitor...
The idea has some nice aspects for site owners, maybe I should evaluate whether there are already plugins that limit the number of comments to a post.
There are a few drawbacks on the idea though.
As the idea is to maintain quality comments it does not reduce the amount of work necessary to write the comments, the only advantage would be that your comments have a far higher probability of being accepted.
I say higher probability because the comments would still be moderated (and rightly so, because the danger of abuse is still there).
Wouldn't it be easier to just get a couple of hundreds of dofollow blogs and try and see what sticks?
I personally would not be willing to spend money for a comparatively small a chance of a higher acceptance rate of comments.
I have quite a bit of experience inthe field of blog commenting (see my sig) but I am not sure whether there is enough potential for a paid service in the idea...

Yes the comments would still need to be moderated and it is still going to be work to write the comments but as a tool for getting a massive variety of different domains linking back to your site I think it has legs. Imagine you could comment (and almost certainly get your comments approved) on hundreds of different blogs, on hundreds of different IP addresses - I am certain you'd see a noticeable improvement in your rankings.

I actually did an experiment a year or so ago where I posted 90 odd comments, got around half of the approved and saw my rankings increase to page 1 of Google for a fairly competitive phrase. But that took me a long time to find the blogs so having a network of them ready and willing to accept comments and that are dofollow it would save a great deal of effort.

One other suggestion for it would be to only allow comments on new posts so after 20 days or so no more comments could be added - I think this makes it look more natural.

I do not question the use of blog comments at all, in fact I think it is a good and easy way to build links.
I just do not see what an extra service could add as all steps can or even must be done seperately from such a service, too.
With my search it is no problem to come up with hundreds of blogs in a short time and commenting and moderating still has to be done manually.
Closing the comments is a good idea but can be done with free plugin (e.g. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/comment-timeout/), so the only advantage would be that you would have a slightly higher chance of approval.
But again, I would not let people comment unmoderated even if they paid for a service as there is the temptation for them to write only short unrelated stuff to have less work (after all why work so much, hey I paid...)

I had a blog for postings on TBS and the comments that came in were ridiculous and many were linked to sites that I wouldn't want to be associated with! Having a "timeout" for commenting sounds like a really good idea.

It highly depends on your chosen keywords how many dofollow blogs you get.
There are keyword with only a handful of found dofollow blogs and there are others that return more than 5000 dofollow blogs.
Do you mean you found a high percentage of blogs marked as dofollow in my list that actually were nofollow?
If so, i'd be thankful if you could forward me a few of those as then it means there is a bug in my search.

Did you notice that there is an extra list in a second table with keyword independent Keywordluv blogs?
The last time I checked there were almost 2900 Keywordluv blog posts in the Keywordluv list that comes with every search and more than 13000 CommentLuv blog posts.

There is a big debate about the relevancy of having nofollow links in your portfolio also, I know quite a few SEOs who mix in at least 25% nofollow links.
Whether a blog is nofollow or dofollow should have an impact in the proposed system. I would suggest that it counts into the credits, also there must be regulations how to deal with someone changing his blogs and how to deal with follow case by case (interesting plugin) users...

Another angle is to "induce" your visitors to comment on your blog posts.

I'd say more but the forum rules don't allow, use your imagination....
