Breadcrumbs - Tell me about them, please.
« on: December 16, 2010, 03:58:19 PM »
It was my understanding that putting breadcrumbs on a site would enable Google to find its way around.

Would someone give an explanation and show why breadcrumbs are good or bad and if they help sites
to get indexed.

Breadcrumbs are more for the user experience but Google will spider them. They are usually one word links that show the string of pages you clicked through to get to your destination page. By all means use them.

I am a big advocate of using a Google .xml sitemap for letting them know I have a new website/fresh content/changes/etc.

DO NOT FOLLOW BREADCRUMBS!  They lead to this witch's house in the woods, and she's hungry. :-X

That is why any responsible web master will use rel="nofollow" links in the breadcrumbs navigation ;-)
