Im stuck. Im sure everyone who has been doing this for some time has been here, and Im sure my biggest 'answer' is going to be 'Patients'.

I have a particular term I am working on, have been for about 2 months now. For a long time I was on the cusp of page one, then back and forth for a few days (top of page 2 bottom of page one). But now I just seem to be stuck at position 9, every day, position 9. Position 9 just isnt good enough. Im not really seeing any traffic from position 9, but just a few up I can just feel the traffic running through my toes (like sand on a beach). Is there anything I can do to give it a jolt to move on up? Or do I just need to sit back, keep my 1way and 3way going (3way has completed at 280 btw and 1way has posted 400ish and counting)?

Im sure I'll see higher SERPs before I know it, but right now I just need that pat on the back, assuring me Im headed in the right direction.

Let me know if I should get any more detailed.

Hi Brian

In my opinion you are very likely already going in the right direction - There are a few things you can do for a few extra ranking signals.
One is mentionings of your site: Google takes into account whether a site is often mentioned, even if it is not linked to. This can be accomplished with 1waylinks in case you have articles you use for link building for other sites that have a similar topic, just mention the name or the adress of your site without linking to it.

Of course link and mention your site on twitter and facebook.

build additional links that don't have your keyword  but instead just your domain name or the name of your site. This makes for a more natural link profile and strengthens the brand.

And the last thing is what you already knew - be patient - two months is not a long time ;-)

Sweet, I hadnt thought of doing that (the mentions). I'll fire up a 1way link post that spins in a nonlink mention, I already have url spun in so thats good.

One question though (this is a 1waylinks question so I may need to move forums).

When I set up a 1waylinks post I will usually take advantage of all 3 links per post, each of which is pointing to a totally different site. Does the link's value increase if I only include one link in a post? I have just launched one post with a single link on a brand new site, I guess we'll see.

Hi Brian

Two links from the same page don't add much value - I often don't use all three links or I link out to different sites of mine.
Or I add links to undisputed authority sites for the topic, like wikipedia. One more link to wikipedia does not really make it a much stronger competitor, after all they already have millions of links and they don't sell anything...
The theory is that if you are mentioned/linked to from the same article you must be of comparable authority...
I have no real proof for this - but learned it from a couple of other renowned SEOs, it is worth a try ;)

Hmm, well it might be - but obviously it belongs to a very sinister secret society as even for the start page you need to supply a password.
The first prerequesite to become a member probably is to link out to them  8)

Mike, got a question for ya. On pretty much all of my backlinks I'm only linking to the root url, I have seen some things around about deep backlinking but havent done any myself. I got to thinking, maybe I should launch a 1way article that will have a large portion of my many pages spun in with a plethora of key words. I wonder, would this type of linking help my root url rank better?

If anything I guess it would look more natural to have some deep links mixed in.

Hi Brian

Actually that is exactly what I do too. It helps you shape a more natural link profile and having links to inner pages helps the ranking of your domain as a whole.
