Error installing SM2 update
« on: March 15, 2017, 06:32:52 AM »
Hi,

I've been successfully using SM2 in a Windows Server 2012 R2 (remote desktop) and have update it with no problem until today... with the latest SM2 update when I tried to install it I get the following error:

Could not extract file!
Appearance Pak.dll

I'm given 3 options - Abort Retry or Ignore - if I press retry the error still appears, if I press Ignore then the same error but with another dll file appears and so on.

Have anyone experienced this issue?

How can I fix it?

Thanks!

Carlos

That means you have an instance of SM2 stuck in the task manager. Right-click on the start bar, go to Task Manager and find "SocialMultiplier2.exe". Select it and click "End Task" then try to install again. It should work.

Thanks Jon... I've tried to update as you suggest and still got the same error... I'm attaching a print screen of the error while keeping open the task manager, the only program running is the SetupSocialMultiplier2.

What else could it be?

Thanks

That error means SM2 is already running in the Task Manager. I promise you that's the issue. Close the installer, look through everything running in the Task Manager and "End Task" on any SocialMultiplier2 tasks and then install again.

Thanks Jon,

I finally was able to update SM2... this is what I did:

1- I ended all SM2 tasks from Task Manager (initially this alone did not solved my problem)
2- I updated Windows critical updates
3- I rebooted the server

After rebooting the server I tried the update right away and it updated without a problem.

Thanks!
