Traffic Totals Related to Number of Boards??
« on: January 02, 2017, 03:11:14 PM »
Jon do you think the number of boards you have on an account effects your traffic, or atleast pinterest putting your pins in search results??

I bring this up because I built a bunch of sites and pinterest accounts and a couple have taken off but a bunch all stayed <100 visits a day. I was trying to see why some took off and some didnt.

After investigating I noticed the sites that jumped up in traffic either had several 100 pins to EACH board OR those accounts had more than 10 boards. The sites that didnt take off had only 5 boards AND/OR I was only pinning to 2 or 3 boards max and the other boards had less than 10 pins each.

I don't think there is a relation here. I am having kind of exactly the opposite with my sites. I have my first main site that has been up for the longest (6+ weeks)...pinning just under 100/day. Then I added three more redirect sites (and pinterest accts) a couple weeks later. They are all now up to 100 pins/day. Each of these three has about half as many followers and pins as the original account/site. But here is the traffic from each of these for the past 7 days (according to Google Analytics).

80 - Pinterest (main site)
873 - redirect site 1
502 - redirect site 2
342 - redirect site 3

I was really disappointed/skeptical about SM2 when I started the main site. Traffic just never got going with it. I still can't figure it out. I am using all the same keywords for all four accounts. I can't find any difference in what I am doing. But the main site does not get traffic. The other three are growing good...basically getting 5 times the traffic from half the followers/pins.

Weird!

I haven't seen that the number of boards creates a lot of difference. You can, of course, capture more traffic if you are pinning more and diversifying your keywords across the boards. But it's not about the boards so much as the keywords.

Thanks for that David. I've had hit and miss sites too. I can't put my finger on it. Some take off and some stay stagnant.

Jonathan - you said"  it's not about the boards so much as the keywords" - I understand what you say here but can you say some more about that? What type of keywords work best for getting the most amount of traffic? - I think it would be a good idea to make this a separate post ...  (may do that next ...)

He meant keywords related to YOUR niche. Example, if you have a fitness site and you have a board on some some obscure diet plan that is not very popular or well known, then it means your board keywords are bad. And you won't get so much traffic as result. Simply because not many people are looking for those "keywords".
