The Best Spinner API is now available to all current customers of The Best Spinner to use, and no longer requires you to purchase quota to query the API.

How it works is simple:

1. You pass your TBS username/password into the API and get back a session identifier.

2. You pass the session identifier into the API for each call to either identifySynonyms or replaceEveryonesFavorites, along with the text you wish to perform the query on and some optional variables.

3. The API passes back the resulting spin-formatted text.

By default, accounts are limited to 250 queries to the API per day, where a query is any call to either the identifySynonyms or replaceEveryonesFavorites functions.  Calling the API to retrieve account information or to login is not counted against your daily maximum.

API Q & A

Q. My software is used by multiple users.  Do the each have to own a copy of The Best Spinner?

A. Yes.  You will need to pass the TBS credentials of your users through to the API if you wish to have each individual user subtract queries from their own TBS account's daily maximum.


Q. I need more than 250 queries per day for my account.  Is that possible?

A. If you have a valid need for a higher limit, please contact support via www.AskJonLeger.com with your required daily queries, the nature of the application and the reason for needing a higher limit. We reserve the right to deny any and all requests.

Q. Since my application's users will need to purchase TBS, can I get some kind of discount for them since they'll only need it for the API?

A. If you wish to try and get a discount for your current user base, please submit all details in a ticket at www.AskJonLeger.com, including the number of users currently using your software.  We reserve the right to deny any and all requests.

I built an ASP.NET application months ago and would love to use the spinner API in it but maybe 400 or more people may be using to create articles at any one time so I guess this won't work for me since there is a query limitation.

The limit is per account. Have your users buy tbs and use their own creds

I'm afraid not.  If you're not familiar with how to programatically perform an HTTP POST, then the API is probably not for you.  You can, of course, lookup how to do a POST in whatever programming language you're wanting to use.

I am in total agreement.  I have no clue what the API is or how I can make use of it.  But since this being offered with my current subscription, I feel that I should be able to use this. 

When we make the original purchase, nothing was said about updates that were only good for programmers only.  Therefore, I feel that an update should be offered which will benefit all subscribers.  I feel that I should be able to download and executable file which will update the software.

The API is for software developers. If you don't know what it is or how to use it, then it wasn't designed for you. TBS has had numerous updates that benefit all users, as recently as two weeks ago when the new thesaurus was released. The API is not for the general user, nor should it be.

is there any way I can get the documentation for the api without being a subscriber?

I'm releasing a new piece of fixed price software (like senuke/evo) in october and would like to integrate the best spinner api into the software article spinner for best spinner subscribers.

No.  You need to be a subscriber.

Is there a way to add tokens that are not considered into replacing?

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking.  If you need some kind of token in between the two text fields, sure you can do that.  Just make it something that isn't a word or phrase and TBS won't touch it.
