Question about validity of rankings based on your country
« on: January 20, 2011, 06:34:38 AM »
Hello all. This is something that l can't quite figure out.

An example.
For search terms that l am aiming to get high rankings for in the States, when l use WebComp Analyst, l see my keywords listed as being in the top 10 in google in the USA. However, if l use my google adwords account ad preview tool, l see l am listed way way down the rankings, on page 10!!! Why is this? This is the case for lots of keywords l am ranking for.

Can l assume that because l am outside the USA, what l am seeing in WebComp analyst is the results that google shows to people searching google usa, from outside the USA?? Based on your IP address, which WebComp Analyst is using to access google data.

Because if that is the case, then WebComp Analyst is useless to anyone living outside the USA, targeting the USA, as you are never going to see the real results. Its only going to show you accurate results for the country you are using WebComp Analyst in. You would need to use a proxy for it to be accurate?

l have suspected that for awhile, as for keywords that l thought l was ranking high for, are getting me very little traffic. By using googles adwords preview tool, l know why.

Any info that would enlighten me further would be really appreciated.
Thanks

If you are living (or located) outside of the USA, or have employees/contractors working for you who are located outside the U.S., you can get around the problems you cite by using a VPN proxy service, like those being reviewed at myvpnreviews.com

Most have multiple servers/IP addresses in the U.S. that you can "secure tunnel" to and from that point, you are operating in the U.S. with a US IP number.
