Yahoo Site Explorer Shutting Down
« on: March 15, 2011, 10:05:23 AM »
With WebComp Analyst's source of backlink data shutting down soon (the end of this month), I was wondering if you have any plans to update WCA to retrieve the data from another source.  I know several competitor tools are switching to MajesticSEO.  While I could switch to using those tools, I still like WCA's streamlined features and laser sharp focus on actionable data.

Any thoughts or plans?

Thanks!

There's nothing else out there (that I'm aware of) that's a free source like Y!SE.  I'm actually stopping the sale of WCA as of today because of this development.  WCA is basically worthless without Y!SE.

Jon usually gives a 30 day money back. Ask the help desk. http://www.askjonleger.com/ But he may already be looking for something else to use instead.

I don't know if this is possible, but could you change WCA so that if you have an account with MajesticSEO, you enter your account data into WCA so it could work with MajesticSEO's API?

This doesn't provide much incentive for new people to buy WCA (because they'd also have to pay a monthly fee to MajesticSEO to make it work), but for those of us that have already bought it, it might provide a way forward.

However, it may cost you to get access to the API, so maybe it's all just moot.  Just throwing the idea out there... *shrug*

I may just have to get used to using the other keyword tools weighed down by unnecessary bloat.  :-\

Maybe Bing will end up offering something similar.  Or I could setup my own crowdsourcing link analysis tool like MajesticSEO. :D

Jon,

This is somewhat disturbing. Everyone doing anything on the Internet has known for several weeks that Yahoo Site Explorer was shutting down.

I'm not asking for my money back because I bought this and other applications to help YOU generate funds for a charity that that I will never see any one who may benefit from it.

I had always thought highly of you before this. You shouldn't have tricked people into responding to your plea to help your favorite charity with something that you knew would be useless very soon. I took money away from two other charities for your project. :'(

artlynch, these things happen. I don't think anyone can build a business as successful as Jon's based on "tricking" people. I've seen some really good programs falter because of knee-jerk reactions, jumping to the wrong conclusions. Yes, I'm playing cheerleader here because having watched and been a customer of Jon's for several years now I have never seen any intentional deception. I file it under, "sh** happens". It is, what it is.

Cheers.

What is going to be the way out now? What is your advise?

To check the links of the competition, here's a good alternative:

http://www.majesticseo.com/

It's not free, but it's good.
